“The very fire of hell is the fire of love. But it is a love that will burn the evil out of you.” – George MacDonald in “Know Christ”, preached in the West Croydon Congregational Church.
Not really.
1. Hell does not exist.
2. Gehenna can’t burn the evil out of you because if you are one of the unfortunate ones to be cast into Gehenna, you are first put to death and then cast in rather than getting a decent Jewish burial.
3. The lake of fire likewise does not burn evil out of anyone interred therein because it is death. Those who enter therein are dead. Unconscious dead.
4. The only means of ridding evil from the human race is through the obedience of Christ to the cross. If we look at Romans 5:18,19, the obedience of Christ is what will make all mankind righteous.
5. To the degree that fire can burn the evil out of a person is to the degree that that person does not need Christ to make them righteous.
6. God’s love for humanity required the most supreme sacrifice in the universe, the giving of God’s perfect Son to die for all. It was not fire but the obedience to the death of the cross of His Son that saves and makes us righteous.
